TOTAL soon begins operations in block 6 of Cyprus’ EEZ

Last Sunday the 05th of November 2017, Cyprus President Mr. Nicos Anastasiades met with TOTAL`s Chairman and CEO Patrick Pouyanne and Vice President of the Middle East and North Africa division Elias Kassis. Following the meeting was the announcement that the French energy giant will soon begin operating in block 6 of Cyprus` Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

Government Spokesman Nikos Christodoulides, accompanying President Anastasiades on his working visit to France, reported in a press release that: “it was a very constructive meeting during which the activities of the company in Cyprus were discussed, as a result of a recent drilling and future company plans in cooperation with the Italian ENI.”

He also noted that TOTAL`s Chairman and CEO Patrick Pouyanne, said during the meeting, that they will proceed with their plans in block 6, pointing out that this is a positive development and acknowledging all the promising prospects moving forward.

Mr. Christodoulides said that Patrick Pouyanne’s optimism consequently casts a vote of confidence in the Cypriot EEZ. He further added that, following the discussion with TOTAL it seems that the issue of energy will be among the main topics to be discussed during President Anastasiades` meeting with the French President Macron on Monday.

Pouyanne said that during his second meeting with President Anastasiades, they discussed the cooperation of TOTAL with the Cypriot government, and the drilling they carried out during the summer. He confirmed that they will soon begin operations in block 6 and expressed the wish to make good discoveries in the near future to the benefit of Cyprus.
