EY Cyprus has announced the appointment of Christoforos Socratous and George Liasis as new partners in its Global Compliance & Reporting and Indirect Tax teams respectively. The new partners take up their new roles as of 1st July 2017 and are expected to make a substantial contribution in further strengthening the local practice.
Christoforos Socratous is leading the Global Compliance & Reporting Services at EY Cyprus. He holds a Mathematics degree from the University of Cambridge and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) and the Institute of CertifiedPublic Accountants of Cyprus (ICPAC). He is a versatile professional with experiences in various areas of the accounting profession including audit and financial advisory. Over the last 9 years he has specialized in offering integrated corporate compliance services to local and international businesses in various industries, covering all aspects of their local operations from accounting and reporting, payroll and immigration, tax compliance, secretarial support and corporate administration.
George Liasis is leading the Indirect Tax Services at EY Cyprus. He holds a Master of Laws (LL.M) in European and International Tax and VAT Law from KU Leuven and Tilburg University and is a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Cyprus (ICPAC). His area of expertise is the VAT law which he claims to be his passion but he also specializes in customs and excise duties and other indirect taxes. Over the past 12 years he has developed a specialization in VAT and indirect tax matters in all industries, with specific focus on the financial and insurance sector, the retail sector but also the government and public sectors. George and his team are also active in training and teaching the VAT law and its practical applications.

This news comes a few weeks after EY admitted Charalambos Prountzos to EY as a Partner and EY Law Practice Leader for Cyprus. Charalambos holds an LLB from the University of Bristol, a Barrister-at-Law from Inns of Courts School of Law, London (Member of Gray’s Inn), is a member of the Cyprus Bar Association and the founder of Prountzos & Prountzos LLC, established in 2010. As of 19th April 2017, the firm has been offering legal services to clients as EY Law, functioning as an independent law firm, regulated by the Cyprus Bar Association, yet an integral part of EY in Cyprus in terms of operations and market offering.
