How has Cyprus positioned itself to attract Chinese investment, and what key sectors or opportunities are you focusing on to further strengthen investment ties between the two countries?

Cyprus’ business and investment environment has many strengths, but these features are not well known in Japan. Although some Japanese companies are doing successful business in Cyprus’ financial and shipping sectors, there is much room for better promotion of these comparative advantages to deepen relations between the two countries in the future, says Yoshio Yamawaki. 

How has Cyprus positioned itself to attract investment from Japan, and what key sectors or opportunities are you focusing on to further strengthen investment ties between the two countries?

How would you describe the current state of Cyprus-China relations, and in what areas do you see the most significant diplomatic advancements in the coming years?

Cyprus provides Japanese businesses with a distinct set of opportunities, leveraging its strategic position as an EU member state and a bridge between three continents. By leveraging Cyprus’ favourable business environment, we aim to increase our collaboration with Japan in sectors such as energy, finance, technology and shipping, says Yiannis Michaelides.

How has the relationship between Cyprus and Japan evolved over the years, and what are the key areas where you see the most potential for enhanced cooperation and partnership moving forward?

In what ways has Cyprus strengthened its relationship with Japan, and which economic sectors provide the most investment potential at the moment? How can Cyprus facilitate more business from Japan and make itself even more attractive to Japanese investors?

Economic and trade cooperation between China and Cyprus has continued to deepen with strong collaboration in the technology and energy sectors. With its geostrategic location, Cyprus also enjoys multiple advantages as a fulcrum country for China’s Belt and Road initiative, says Liu Yantao.

How would you describe the evolution of Cyprus’ bilateral relationship with China, and what key areas of cooperation do you see as vital for the continued strengthening of ties between the two countries?

Cyprus’ strong shipping industry, burgeoning ICT sector, and established financial services sector position it as an attractive investment hub for Japanese businesses, while also providing seamless access to both regional and European markets, says Stelios Demetriou.

The distinct combination of geographic, regulatory, and financial advantages sets Cyprus apart as an attractive European base for Chinese business, while emerging sectors such as renewable energy, digital innovation, and financial services hold significant potential for deepening business ties, says Theodoros Parperis.

In what ways has Cyprus strengthened its relationship with China, and which economic sectors provide the most investment potential at the moment? How can Cyprus facilitate more business from China and make itself even more attractive to Chinese investors?

Our higher education institutions have gained global recognition for their academic excellence, and we are spearheading initiatives to further modernise higher education, aiming for greater flexibility, enhanced research capacities and stronger international collaborations.

Our main scope is to increase efficiency and cost-effectiveness in transporting goods and the population in general, to enhance the attractiveness and quality of the urban environment and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption.

The UK and Cyprus have a longstanding history of cooperation. The UK is also a key source market for Cyprus in terms of investment. What type of projects or sectors have seen significant British participation so far, and what type of foreign direct investment would you like to see from the UK in the future?

The strong and multifaceted relationship between Cyprus and the UK will continue to support and develop trade and commercial partnerships, which in turn will offer tangible economic and financial benefits to the people of both countries.

The UK is an important and strategic ally for Cyprus. What are the key pillars that form this strong relationship and how do you see this bilateral partnership developing in the future?

Cyprus has historically attracted significant investment and participation from the UK in various economic sectors, but there is scope for more cooperation to further strengthen the bilateral relationship and strategic ties of the two countries.

Inward investment can serve as the best proof for investors’ confidence in Cyprus, which is excelling in traditional, but also new emerging sectors of the economy. The stability, access to other markets and the European base the island offers, makes Cyprus the perfect partner for UK economic and trade interests.
