In statements made to the Cyprus News Agency (CNA), public sector reform commissioner Emanuella Moushioutta Lambrianides also announced that on September 13 President Nicos Anastasiades will present an action plan on state and institutional modernisation. She clarified that the action plan will include a policies agenda and the measures which will be taken. Referring to the World Bank mission, Lambrianides said that that the experts’ visit will focus on the ministries of health, education and agriculture.
A team from the UK will also be in Cyprus at the same time looking into personnel matters such as the state payroll, the evaluation system in place and the mobility of public servants. Lambrianides noted that on September 23, a UK mission will visit Cyprus to look into local administration matters and the Registrar of Companies. She added that the Cabinet decided last Wednesday to appoint a ministerial committee under Minister of Finance Harris Georgiades, which will also include ministers of labour, justice, agriculture and the under secretary to the President.
In August Cyprus signed a bilateral agreement with the UK to conduct a study on the modernisation and reform of the public sector. The government has stated that public sector reform is a priority as well as an obligation stemming from the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the basis of an international rescue for Cyprus reached in late March.
