Wedding tourism boost from Lebanon

The Cyprus Tourism Organisation has forecast that around 35,000 tourists from Lebanon will visit the island in 2016.

According to the organisation, wedding tourism from Lebanon has increased by 30% and is expected to grow.

Cyprus has long been a favourite with Lebanese, as the flight time is just under 35 minutes from Beirut to Larnaca.

Around 8,000 couples from abroad chose Cyprus as their wedding destination last year, with the number steadily climbing.

All coastal towns in particular, such as Ayia Napa, Protaras and Paphos, enjoy a vibrant wedding trade.

Last year 66 couples from Israel were married in a mass civil ceremony, with the medieval castle in Larnaca at the backdrop of the event.

The couples, mainly Israelis and Russians, together with friends and relatives, travelled on a cruise ship from Haifa to Larnaca.

It was the fifth year in a row the municipality hosted mass civil marriages in cooperation with the Larnaca Tourism Development and Promotion Company.
