Wedding tourism a lucrative business, says CTO

Wedding tourism contributes €110 million a year to the economy, the Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO) said recently.

The annual number of marriages conducted in the tourism sector is estimated at around 7,500, according to the CTO, which carried out a survey during a seminar held recently.

The seminar presented the results of a survey into wedding tourism and its development opportunities in the coming years including during the winter season, plus looking at new markets. Most wedding tourism comes from the UK, Israel, Lebanon and now Russia.

The main results of the survey found that most weddings are held between April and September each year. Some 40% involve couples from the UK, 30% from Israel, around 10% from Lebanon and 5% from Russia. Most weddings draw an additional nine persons along with the bride and groom.
