Vaccination slots this week booked solid

Vaccinations for those aged of 80 began on Tuesday after vaccinations for the first priority group – healthcare workers dealing with coronavirus patients and nursing home workers and residents – successfully wrapped up on Monday, with the health ministry announcing that time-slots are already booked solid.

The health ministry said all available vaccination slots for this week were reserved just hours after the launch of the vaccination portal, through which the public reserves a time slot to get their coronavirus jab.

Over 3,000 people aged 80 or over who are next in line for the coronavirus vaccine reserved their spot for the jab this week, with new slots to open up next Monday.

On Monday, Cyprus received its weekly batch of 6,825 doses.

The vaccination portal was presented on Monday by the deputy ministry of research, innovation and digital policy and the ministry of health.

Deputy head of the medical services Olga Kalakouta said the portal is accessible to all who are registered with Gesy, while appointments can also be arranged through GPs or by calling 1474.

By summer, half Cyprus’ population is expected to be vaccinated.
