Larnaca marina is expected to open to the public by mid-September as plans for expanding and privatising it are now on track.
The run-down marina was operating as a close shop for years, mainly accessible to owners of boats anchored there, Philenews reports.
But Kition Ocean Holdings Ltd, the Israeli-Cypriot consortium that was awarded the tender in 2020, aims to put an end to this.
In addition to the marina upgrade, the ambitious project enhances the road network and creates infrastructure for residential, commercial, social, and cultural use.
The €1.2 billion project for the joint redevelopment of the Larnaca port and the Marina area is on track for implementation with the Master Plan of the project expected to be concluded in four phases.
At the moment, a representative of the operating company said that fencing took place around the marina to secure the boats there and repairs to the existing building have begun.
Projects currently underway include setting up a restaurant, an open reception area for hosting events and a children’s playground.
At the same time, parking areas are being created along with the opening of a roof bar in the marina building.
