According to a press release issued by the University of Cyprus, the project aims at continuing the development of operational oceanographic predictions and to facilitate maritime applications regarding maritime security, maritime resources, the sea and off shore environment and the change of climate. 



The budget for the project reaches €6 million for the period October 1, 2014, until March 2015. The budget for the Oceanographic Centre is €67.500 and will cover the expenses for hiring scienties. 


The Centre is responsible for issues regarding maritime oceanographic prediction at Eastern Leviathan and heads the project for educating new users of Copernicus MyOCEAN-FO maritime services. 


'Horizon 2020' is the biggest EU Research and Innovation programme ever with nearly €80 billion of funding available over 7 years (2014 to 2020) – in addition to the private investment that this money will attract. It promises more breakthroughs, discoveries and world-firsts by taking great ideas from the lab to the market.
