The unemployment rate in December 2015 remained unchanged at 15.7%, compared with the month before, and fell from 16.5% a year before, the European Union’s statistical office said.
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate among people younger than 25 also remained unchanged at just below 32% in December, compared with the previous month, down from over 34% in December 2015, Eurostat said in a statement on its website on Tuesday.
Cyprus’s unemployment rate among men stood at 15.6% and 15.9% among women in December, Eurostat said.
Cyprus’ unemployment rate was the euro area’s third-highest; Greece had the highest rate with over 24%, trailed by Spain with 20.8%, according to Eurostat. Germany had the lowest unemployment rate in the euro area with 4.5%, followed by Malta and Austria with 5.1%, and Austria with 5.8%.
