UK investors show trust in Cyprus while calling for improved transparency

Cyprus’ institutional framework for attracting and facilitating foreign investments must improve, said the Energy Minister at a recent meeting with UK investors.

The 'Breakfast with the Minister' is an initiative organised by Cyprus Investment Promotion Agency (CIPA), in cooperation with the British High Commission and the Cyprus-UK Investment Association.  In statements after the meeting, Energy Minister Lakkotrypis said that UK investors asked for more predictability, transparency and convenience attracting investments in Cyprus. He noted moreover that investors from the UK show their trust to Cyprus, despite the difficult conditions of the past months.

"We work hard to improve the institutional framework, in order to speed up the licensing process for small and bigger investment projects", the Minister said. On his part, CIPA President Christodoulos Angastiniotis said that there are already important British investments in Cyprus, in banking, university education and energy. British High Commissioner Matthew Kidd said this was a good initiative, with the government explaining its efforts to improve the climate for investors from Britain and elsewhere. Giorgos Kouris from the Cyprus-UK Investment Association thanked CIPA for the opportunity given to investors to state their views for improving the business climate.
