A press release issued recently by the University said that a Submarine Archaeology Centre and an Oceanographic Centre would also be set up in Larnaca.

University Rector, Professor Constantinos Christofides and Council President Manthos Mavrommatis have welcomed the recent announcements by President Nicos Anastasiades for a number of projects in Larnaca and the cabinet decision to approve a university request to use the state-owned land that was the former leper colony, which covers 54,000m², to house the Institute of Hydrocarbons, the Centre of Submarine Archaeology, the Oceanographic Centre and the Department of Chemical Engineering and Hydrocarbons.

According to the rector, the decision creates a very promising prospect for the city of Larnaca. He assured that the University will fully respect the environment and the green space of the area of the old leprosarium, pointing out that the University is an organisation which has been re-awarded many times in the past for its green strategies and development.
