Travel to and from Cyprus dropped by nearly 79 % from January to September, according to data published on Monday by the statistical service.
During the period between January and September 2020, arrivals of travellers totalled 981,849 compared to 4,610,502 in the corresponding period of 2019, recording a decrease of 78.7 %. Departures for the same period also dropped by 78.8 %, Cystat added.
The steep drop in travel to and from Cyprus is mainly associated with the considerable reduction in tourist arrivals due to restrictions in place to contain the spread of Covid-19.
Arrivals of travellers in September 2020 dropped to 119,426 compared to 679,628 in September 2019, recording a decrease of 82.4 %. In September tourist arrivals dropped by 83.4 % compared to the same period of 2019 while arrivals or Cyprus residents also dropped by an annual 80.3 %
