According to the Association of Cyprus Travel Agents (ACTA) Chairman Dinos Kakouras, reservations up until October are going well.
He also said it was important to extend the tourist season well into the winter months and secure reservations for the rest of the year.
Speaking to the Cyprus News Agency (CNA,) Kakouras also said that most tourists have been coming from the UK and Russia.
Also according to Kakouras, a large number of Cypriots prefer to holiday overseas, with Greece and its islands on the top of the list of destinations.
Crete, Preveza, Mykonos, Santorini and Skiathos are the most preferred islands.
A big percentage of the local population also travel to Europe, mainly Spain, Italy, Austria, Serbia, and the Czech Republic. Fewer Cypriots visit the US and Asia.
In the north of Cyprus, there was a 19% rise in the hotel occupancy rate for July in comparison to the same month last year.
According to the association of the hoteliers in the north of Cyprus (KITOB), five–star hotels in the north saw an occupancy rate of 77%. Meanwhile smaller hotel rates were at 47% rising by 11% when compared to data from July 2016.
Overall, the occupancy rate of hotels in the north for the month of July was 62% – a spike of 8% in comparison to July 2016, and 5% from June 2017.
