Transportation solutions for the capital mulled

The first meeting in line with Cyprus' 2010 Integrated Mobility Plan for Nicosia which promotes sustainable transportation solutions recently took place in the capital.

Minister of Communications Tasos Mitsopoulos said the meeting was the first of a series scheduled to take place before the go-ahead is given on a number of construction projects. "A decision was made to appoint a technical committee and a working group that will plan and oversee a number of mobility related development projects in the capital." The minister said that despite the economic difficulties Cyprus is facing it is important for the government to promote sustainable transport development projects.

"All the future projects will benefit the capital's municipality and wider Nicosia while the Ministry of Communications is pushing for the Integrated Mobility plan to be extended and cover all cities in Cyprus." Nicosia Mayor Constantinos Yiorkadjis thanked the ministry for helpingto promote sustainable mobility in Cyprus. "Today we had the opportunity to present a complete mobility plan for Nicosia which includes development projects and transport plans. This is something absolutely necessary for Cyprus."
