Trade deficit up by 21.25% in first 5 months of 2017

The trade deficit in Cyprus marked an increase of 21.25% in the first five months of 2017 and from €1.660,3 million it was increased to €2.108,2 million.

The Statistical Service of Cyprus announced the monthly electronic publication ‘Intra-Extra EU Trade Statistics (by commodity and country)’ for January-May 2017.

According to the Statistical Service, total imports in January-May 2017 amounted to €3.144,1 million as compared to €2.858,9 million in January-May 2016. Total exports in 2017 were €1.035,9 million compared to €1.198,6 million in 2016. The trade deficit was €2.108,2 million in the first five months of 2017 compared to €1.660,3 million in the corresponding period of 2016.

Total exports of domestically produced goods, excluding stores and provisions, in January-May 2017 were €525,0 mn compared to €372,6 mn in January-May.
