Trade deficit up €648 million Jan-May 2016

According to the Cyprus Statistical Service, the trade deficit was up €648 million in January-May 2016 year-on-year.

The main developments in Cyprus foreign trade in May 2016 were:

(a) Total imports/arrivals (covering total imports from third countries and arrivals from other Member States) in January-May 2016 amounted to €2,531.2 million as compared to €2,082.7 million in January-May 2015. Total exports/dispatches (covering total exports to third countries and dispatches to other Member States) in January-May 2016 were €659.8 million compared to €859.8 million in January-May 2015. The trade deficit was €1,871.4 million in January-May 2016 compared to €1,223.0 million in the corresponding period of 2015.

(b) During May 2016 total imports/arrivals (covering total imports from third countries and arrivals from other Member States) valued at €1,018.8 million. Total imports/arrivals for May 2016 include the transfer of economic ownership of mobile transport equipment (vessels), with total value of €563.4 million.


(c) Total exports/dispatches (covering total exports to third countries and dispatches to other Member States), including stores and provisions, in May 2016 amounted to €136.1 million. Εxports/dispatches of domestically produced goods, including stores and provisions, were €78.9 million whilst exports/dispatches of foreign goods, including stores and provisions, were €57.2 million.
