Tourist arrivals rose in May 2018 by 7.6% to 450,955 compared to the respective month of 2017 as secondary markets offset a decline in Russian visitors, the statistical service said recently.
Last month, the number of tourists from the UK rose an annual 3.8% to 160,948 while that of tourists from Russia fell 7.9% to 99,572, Cystat said. Arrivals from Germany and Greece rose 2.9% to 21,679 and 13% to 16,622 while those from Sweden and Israel fell 0.2% to 20,341 and 3.7% to 19,947 respectively.
The highest increase in arrivals was the 91% to 12.521 from Poland, 56% to 3,204 from Belgium and 55% from Ukraine to 7,249, Cystat said.
In a separate statement, Cystat said the number of Cypriots who travelled abroad last month rose 1.7% to 103,796 compared to a year before.
