In January to September 2014, tourist arrivals rose 2.8% to 2,051,483 compared to the respective period last year, Cystat said recently.
However, tourist arrivals fell in September 12% compared to the same month last year to 316,602 as arrivals from the United Kingdom and Russia, Cyprus’ major tourist markets, slumped, the statistical service said on Monday.
Arrivals from the UK fell 17% while those from Russia fell 16% to 109,951 and 90,866 respectively, compared to September last year, Cystat said. Arrivals from Sweden fell 12% compared to a year ago to 16,947.
Those arrivals from Switzerland and Israel rose an annual 21% and 23% to 8,492 and 7,383 respectively, the statement said.
