Tourist arrivals, revenues up in April 2014

Tourist arrivals rose 11.4% year-on-year in April 2014 reaching 180,998, the island’s statistical service said recently, with revenues also recording a 20.4% rise.

Income from tourism reached €132.9m in April, compared with €110.4 m in April 2013 and €56.5m the previous month.

Russians spent the most cash per capita, €1,012, with Norwegians coming in second – €919. The Swiss were in third place with €854, followed by the French, €842.

German tourists spent €718 per head, while Britons parted with €694 each.

Most tourist arrivals came from the UK – 73,556, followed by Russia, 32,430.

May arrivals were also up – 293,181, compared with 276,244 in May last year, but revenue was not immediately available.

Close to 277,500 people came from Europe, including Russia and other countries in the wider area, while 168,331 were EU residents.

The majority of tourists visiting Cyprus in May came from the UK, 106,063, with Russia not very far behind with 88,426.
