Tourist arrivals reach record high for October in 2017

Last month was the best October ever in terms of tourist arrivals which rose 14% compared to the same month of 2016 to 406,870, the statistical service said.

In January to October, the number of incoming visitors rose 15% compared to the same period last year to 3,408,473. This exceeds total arrivals for the whole of 2016 by 221,942, Cystat said in a statement on its website on Friday.

Arrivals from the UK, traditionally Cyprus’ main source of incoming tourism, rose 0.5% to 134,575 last month compared to October 2016, while those from Russia, the second largest market, rose 7.1% to 87,325, Cystat said. The number of tourists from Germany, Israel and Sweden rose 73% to 31,392, 55 % to 24,599 and 35.8% to 19,049 respectively. Arrivals from Greece rose 10% to 16,790.

In a separate statement, Cystat said that the number of Cypriots who travelled abroad last month rose an annual 7.5% to 118,370.
