Tourism up 6% between January and July 2014

Tourism has risen 6.0% between January and July, and revenue by 8.0% compared to the same period last year, Cyprus Tourism Organisation chairman Angelos Loizou said recently.

In an interview with the Cyprus News Agency, Loizou said: “We are satisfied as regards the results but the possibilities exist to make them even better.” He said Cyprus had many reasons to be an even more attractive tourist destination. All was needed was to bring them to the surface.

As regards this year’s results, Loizou said some markets had shown an increase but others were of concern.

According to Loizou arrivals from Russia had increased over 18% this year but those from Germany and the UK had fallen, in the case of the former latter, due to a reduced number of flights.

There were “encouraging” increases from Austria, however, and Israel, Loizou said.

“We are looking with cautious optimism for even better year-round results,” he said.
