Larnaca City Council postponed a decision on French energy giant Total’s application to use the MEDSERV company’s facilities in the city’s port for exploratory drilling, which would extend TOTAL’s activities to beyond August 2016.
The Council also postponed a decision on Italian energy giant ENI’s request for a one-year extension of its activities, with the option for a further extension of six months.
Larnaca Mayor Andreas Louroudjiatis said that “the marathon session of the Council took place within an intense dialogue” after which a final vote was postponed for 15 days to allow for some legal clarifications as well as consultations with the energy companies.
