Thirty research projects underway at CyI

Over thirty research projects are underway at the Cyprus Institute (CyI), with board chairman Dr Andreas Pittas saying that targeted research could have great benefits for the economy.

Pittas said that the Institute was promoting research in fields like energy, environment, technology, computing science and culture. “Targeted investment in projects like these can have great benefits for our economy both now and in the long run. Investing in research can build a new development model and transform our economy to an economy of knowledge”, Pittas added.

Pittas also said that the CyI is collaborating with a number of leading institutions, such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), which also can provide with technical expertise regarding the study of the exploitation of natural gas. “The Institute is considered to be above average according to international academic standards and enjoys high regard in the region. We have secured 15m euros in funding and created new jobs for Cypriot and foreign scientists in just a few years of operation,” he added.
