This is what an official announcement said adding that if no interest is expressed then the government may consider alternative ways to make best use of state wealth.
“The government has decided to approve the extension based on its commitment to create a united Larnaca port and marina development. As well as honouring decisions taken by the previous government,” a statement said.
“In the case where no interest is expressed, the government – bearing in mind the prevailing difficult economic conditions and the need for the creation of sources of revenue and opening of new employment positions – will reassess the situation and probably examine alternative ways of making best use of state wealth to serve the best interests of the town and its citizens,” it added.
An alternative way is turning the port semi-industrial by allowing more international energy firms to operate from there now that the recently discovered hydrocarbons offshore Cyprus have attracted the interest of giants in the industry.
