TechCamp Cyprus: digital citizenship in the disinformation age

The US Department of State, the US embassy in Cyprus, and the American centre at the University of Nicosia are welcoming applications from all over Cyprus for a prestigious two-day TechCamp titled ‘Digital Citizenship in the Disinformation Age’ that will take place from December 7 to 9, 2018 at UNic’s premises in Nicosia.

TechCamp Cyprus aims to help Cypriot and European youth to become better democratic citizens now and in the future, responding to the challenges of the increasing influence of digital media and taking advantage of the opportunities they offer. Through fast-paced, interactive workshops, participants will engage with international industry leaders to improve their digital literacy, cybersecurity awareness, and technology skills and to learn methods of recognising and countering disinformation.

TechCamp Cyprus is open to 80 participants. 40 will be selected from Cyprus and the remaining from various European countries. Ideal participants are young civil society leaders with a prominent community role, aspiring and practicing journalists, social entrepreneurs and social media influencers between the ages of 18 and 35, who want to use technology to increase their effectiveness as democratic citizens and to amplify the impact of the TechCamp in their communities.

Online registration is open until November 5, 2018. To be eligible, applicants must be between the ages of 18 to 35 and highly proficient in English.

Funding for follow-up projects will be available for teams or individuals that qualify.
