The framework to implement the contribution of Switzerland to Cyprus, estimated at €10 million for the needs arising from the increasing migratory flows to the island was examined during a meeting on Thursday between Minister of Interior Nikos Nouris and Switzerland's ambassador to Cyprus, Pierre-Yves Fux.
A Ministry of Interior press release said the agreement came after Nouris met with his Swiss counterpart, Karin Keller Suffer where it was announced that the Swiss government would provide economic support to the Republic of Cyprus for asylum and migration purposes.
During Thursday's meeting with Fux, Swiss government officials and Nouris, the framework to implement the €10 million contribution was examined. It will include covering part of the cost to build new premises for the Asylum Service on the island as well as other relevant actions due to the continued increasing migratory flows.
The context of the final agreement will be signed in early September.
Nouris also conveyed the Republic's gratitude for the Swiss government's willingness to contribute to efforts to manage the migratory challenges.
