State and unions agree on public service reforms

The state and civil servants union Pasydy recently agreed on a series of key elements of a public service reform.

President Nicos Anastasiades’ undersecretary Constantinos Petrides described reaching agreement as “a historic day for public administration,” adding consensus had been found on a new system for promotions, a modernised evaluation system and a new system for civil servant mobility.

Pasydy General Secretary Glafkos Hadjipetrou said the agreements “send out the message that we have started to operate differently”. He also gave assurances dialogue would continue towards creating “a better public service”.

Hadjipetrou noted goodwill had been shown by both sides. Consensus has, however, yet to be found on other issues, including salaries.

Hadjipetrou said he would give a detailed press conference on the agreed changes and other developments once the teams representing international lenders currently in Cyprus to assessthe implementation of bailout-linked reforms completed their work and left.
