September 2016 deflation seen at 0.5%

Consumer prices fell 0.5% in September 2016 compared with the respective month of 2015, mainly on cheaper energy prices and air fares, after falling 0.4% in August, the statistical service said.

From January to September, consumer prices fell 1.6% compared with the respective period of 2015, Cystat said in a statement on its website on Thursday. In September, prices rose a monthly 0.5%.

In September, electricity, air fares and fuel had a deflationary impact of 0.5%, 0.4% and 0.3%, partly offset by increased prices for vegetables, footwear and other products and services which had a positive impact on inflation of 0.4%, 0.1% and 0.1% respectively, Cystat said.
