Russian investment interest

Cyprus and Russian prospects of investment in the primary sector of the island were discussed during the recent two-day visit by Agriculture Minister Nicos Kouyialis to Russia.

During his stay in Russia, Kouyialis attended the opening of the 17th Agricultural Exhibition Golden Autumn in Moscow, at the invitation of Russian Minister of Agriculture Alexander N Tkachev.

Kouyialis and Tkachev held a meeting in which they discussed issues concerning the strengthening of ties between the two countries in the primary production sector on the basis of the Joint Action Plan signed by the Presidents of the two countries in February.

In the context of enhancing bilateral cooperation, Kouyialis met Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Head of the Russia-Cyprus Intergovernmental Committee for economic cooperation Nikolay Podguzov, as well as the Chairman of the Moscow Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mikhail Kuzovlev.

Regarding efforts to attract foreign investment, Kouyialis met Vice President of the Russian Investment Agency Valery Romanyuk, who expressed great interest in the prospect of investments in the primary sector of Cyprus. It was agreed that these prospects are investigated further at a new meeting with the minister set for October 18 in Cyprus.
