Rise in Cyprus banking deposits in November 2016

Deposits in the Cyprus banking system registered a net increase of €358 million in November 2016, whereas loans recorded a marginal decline, figures released by the Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC) show.

Deposits have increased by 6.8% year on year in November compared with an annual rise of 5.9% the previous month.

Deposits prior to the foreign currency and other adjustments, recorded an increase of €663.4 million reaching €49 billion.

Domestic residents deposits reached €36.3 bl compared with €35.8 bl the previous month and €32.9 bl in November 2015.

Deposits held by other eurozone residents in November increased to €3,2 bl compared to €3.1 in October of the current year and €2.8 bl in November of 2015.

According to the CBC figures, deposits held by residents of rest of the world reached €9.4 bl compared with €9.3 bl in October 2016 and €11.7 bl in November 2015.

Total loans in November registered a net decrease of 29. ml compared with a reduction of €138.2 million the previous month.

Total loans before the foreign currency and other adjustments, in November recorded an increase of 128.6 ml reaching €53.9 bl. Total deposits in the previous month mounted to €53.8 bl, whereas total loans in November 2015 amounted to €63.2 bl.

Loans to domestic residents in November amounted to €45.4 bl recording an annual decrease of 7.4%, declining for the 13th consecutive month.

According to the CBC, loans to other eurozone residents and residents of the rest of the world in November amounted to €1.4 bl and €7.1 bl respectively.

As far as domestic residents are concerned, loans to non-financial corporations amounted to €20.5 bl marking a reduction of 0.4% year on year.

Total loans to households in November amounted to €20.4 bl declining by 0.6% on an annual basis.
