On November 30 total tourist arrivals to the island surpassed those seen for the whole of the year 2023, a record year for arrivals, Transport Minister Alexis Vafeades announced.
By the end of this year, arrivals are expected to be five per cent more than last year, he said in a written statement. “This increase has a positive impact on the economy and tourism of Cyprus,” he said, “while the ministry will continue efforts to further strengthen the connectivity of Cyprus and to improve the level of passenger service at Larnaca and Paphos airports”.
In November, a total of 715,231 passengers used Larnaca and Paphos airports, a 7.01 increase on 2023, while the number travelling between January and November showed a five per cent increase on 2023. Both airports, he continued, face the challenge of effectively serving increased numbers of passengers until the necessary investments are made for plans that include the expansion of their infrastructure to be realised. The increase in passenger numbers at Larnaca airport was 7.39 per cent while that at Paphos was 6.05 per cent compared to last year.
The main markets were the Unted Kingdom, Greece, Poland, Israel and Germany. The number of flights also saw an increase, of 4.89 per cent compared to 2023, with 6,309 operated.
