Revenue from tourism increases 2.1% in September 2018

Revenue from tourism reached €378.8 million in September 2018 compared to €371m in the corresponding month of the previous year, recording an increase of 2.1%, on the basis of the results of the Passenger Survey released by the Statistical Service of Cyprus.

For the period of January – September 2018 revenue from tourism is estimated at €2,268.5m compared to €2,216.7m in the corresponding period of 2017, recording an increase of 2.3%.

The expenditure per person for September 2018 reached €728.23 compared to €766.89 in the corresponding month of the previous year, recording a decrease of 5%. The expenditure per person/per day for September 2018 compared to September 2017 also recorded a decrease of 3% (from €79.06 to €76.66).

A decrease of 2.1% was also recorded in the average length of stay, from 9.7 days in September 2017 to 9.5 days in September 2018.

The expenditure per person for the period of January – September 2018 reached €700.21 compared to €738.49 in the corresponding period of the previous year, recording a decrease of 5.2%. The expenditure per person/per day for the period of January – September 2018 compared to the period of January – September 2017 also recorded a decrease of 3.2% (from €77,74 to €75,29).

The largest spending per person in September was made by tourists from Switzerland with €913, followed by tourists from Germany with €892 and tourists from the UK with €884.

In a press release, the Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO) notes that the increased tourist revenues, that are expected to reach record levels at the end of the year, lead to multiple beneficial effects on the economy of the country.
