Total Research and Development (R&D) expenditure in Cyprus in 2013 is estimated at €83.8 million, which corresponds to 0.46% of the Gross Domestic Product, compared to €83.3 million or 0.43% of the GDP in 2012.
According to the results of the survey carried out by the Statistical Service for the collection of data on scientific research and experimental development, Cyprus (0.46%) continues to have one of the lowest shares of GDP devoted to R&D activities compared to the average for the member states of the European Union (2.01%), along with Romania (0.39%), Latvia (0.60%) and Bulgaria (0.65%). The highest shares are recorded by Finland (3.31%), Sweden (3.30%) and Denmark (3.06%).
