Registered unemployed decrease in January 2017

According to the Cyprus Statistical Service, the unemployed persons registered at the District Labour Offices on the last day of January 2017 reached 42,839 persons.

Based on the seasonally adjusted data that show the trend of unemployment, the number of registered unemployed for January 2017 decreased to 37,792 persons in comparison to 38,335 in the previous month.

In comparison with January 2016, a decrease of 3,130 persons or 6.8% was recorded which was mainly observed in the sectors of construction (a decrease of 1,158 unemployed persons), public administration (a decrease of 608), trade (a decrease of 530), manufacturing (a decrease of 528), transportation (a decrease of 373) and to newcomers in the labour market (a decrease of 153).
