Russian tourist arrivals in Cyprus saw a huge rise in 2016 according to tourism officials in Russia.
Tournos News reports that incoming tourism from Russia shot up by 43% between January-August 2016, compared to the corresponding period of 2015.
Cyprus welcomed 556,000 Russian tourists, the second largest nationality after the British, the report added.
A simplified visa process and problems in Egypt and Turkey helped the spike.
“As a result, an increasing number of hotels in locations like Ayia Napa that closed in late November, will now stay in operation during winter,” the report added.
