Rapid tests Cyprus' main weapon amid gradual relaxation

A major weapon in the government’s battle against a renewed flare-up of the virus as lockdown measures are steadily lifted are rapid tests, with employees who are set to return to work next week subject to a €300 fine if they haven’t gotten checked for the virus.

According to the health ministry’s gradual relaxation plan, on February 8 some 80,000 people are expected to return to their workplaces as retail businesses, primary schools, graduating classes, and museums and archaeological sites are set to resume. From the current 25%, resuming businesses will be able to have 50% of their staff present at workplaces.

The police press office said law enforcement officers will be carrying out intensive checks at workplaces to ensure those present have conducted a rapid test, and will be issuing fines of €300 to those violating the relevant decree.
