Radical changes to the Registrar of Companies

Commerce and Industry Minister Georgios Lakkotrypis has promised radical changes to the Registrar of Companies and Official Receiver Department.

The changes will aim at making the department’s operation more effective and in a position to provide faster services to companies and other involved parties. Speaking to the press, Lakkotrypis also revealed that once the process of dematerialising documents at the Registrar of Companies was complete, the same process would follow at the rest of his ministry, which is also in charge of Energy and Tourism with the ultimate aim of making all work carried out at the department digital.

He said that the dematerialisation process at the Registrar of Companies would be completed within the first sixmonths of the coming year, far earlier than originally anticipated. Great emphasis had been placed on completing the process as soon as possible, he said, because it was expected to solve a lot of past problems experienced by the department. Lakkotrypis also said that within the first fortnight of 2014, the Registrar of Companies website would include information on 27,000 companies that interested parties would be able to access.

The minister also said that there had been great progress as regards the pending documents of companies and that he expected all the files on companies to be up to date by the end of February. He also said that there would be a series of amendments to the law on companies.
