Qatari Ambassador visits CING

The further enhancement of cooperation between the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics (CING) and Qatar was discussed during a visit of the Ambassador of the State of Qatar in Cyprus to the Institute.

According to a press release issued here by the CING, the Chief Executive Medical Director of the Institute, Professor Philippos Patsalis, briefed the Ambassador Hussein Ahmed Al-Homaid on the activities of the Institute as well as on the bilateral collaboration of the Institute with the State of Qatar. Patsalis referred to the uniqueness of the services offered by the Institute, to the innovative and pioneering research programs that are being carried out at the Institute and to the postgraduate program of studies that it offers, in areas in which, as he said, collaboration between the Institute and various bodies of Qatar can be enhanced even further.

The Ambassador thanked Patsalis for the briefing on the activities of the Institute as well as the new areas of possible collaboration and expressed his pleasure for the existing collaboration with the Institute. He also said that he will make efforts with various bodies and organizations in Qatar for further development of the collaboration but also for an additional donation for the Institute.

Following the briefing, the Ambassador was taken on a tour of the Department of Biochemical Genetics to which the Emir of the State of Qatar H.H. Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani and his wife H.H. Sheikh Mozah Bint Nasser Al Missned donated an amount of €350.000 for the purchase of a tandem mass spectrometer. The Head of the Department, Dr Anthi Drousiotou, explained the use and operation of the equipment, and the many examinations and benefits that the equipment offers to thousands of children as was the wish of the donors. Following the extensive briefing, the Ambassador expressed once again his intension and interest for further enhancement of the existing collaboration between the Institute and the State of Qatar, the press release concludes.
