Q2 2014 employment records only slight 0.1% drop

Employment in Cyprus fell in the second quarter of 2014, but the drop was smaller than the previous quarter, according to the EU’s statistical service EUROSTAT.

Employment in Q2 fell by 0.1% compared with 1.2% in Q1.

On an annual basis, employment in Cyprus dropped 1.4% in Q2, Eurostat said.

At the same time the number of people employed in the eurozone increased by 0.2% and by 0.3% in the EU28 in Q2, compared with the previous quarter.

In Q1, employment rose by 0.1% in the eurozone and 0.2% in the EU28. These figures are seasonally adjusted.

Compared with the same quarter of the previous year, employment grew by 0.4% in the eurozone and by 0.7% in the EU28 in Q2 (after +0.1% and +0.6% respectively in Q1).

Eurostat estimates that, in Q2 of 2014, 224.9 million men and women were employed in the EU28, of which 146.5 million were in the eurozone.

These figures are seasonally adjusted.
