Issues that shape the future of the banking sector, such as the prospect of the banking union being completed in the coming years, addressing the challenge of non-performing loans and alternative ways to finance growth, were also discussed. Special reference was made to the energy sector, analysing the latest developments and global trends affecting the region.
The conference was addressed by the President of the Republic, Mr. Nicos Anastasiades, who stressed the importance of regional cooperation in achieving our national targets relating to economic growth and energy.
During the conference, Evgenios C. Evgeniou, CEO of PwC Cyprus, noted: “Focusing on the quality and effectiveness of the government’s spending, in combination with structural reforms to enhance competitiveness and productivity, is the only option for achieving long-term sustainable growth, creating further fiscal space for infrastructure investments, investments in education, innovation, research and importantly, social cohesion programmes”.
