PwC Cyprus: A steady supporter of entrepreneurship and innovation

Amid an environment filled with challenges resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, the need to support entrepreneurship as a basic tool for economic recovery seems more imperative than ever. PwC has always supported the local community, as well as initiatives aimed at reinforcing youth entrepreneurship and innovation, through strategic collaborations with organisations such as Junior Achievement and Chrysalis LEAP.

Student Company of the Year 2020

PwC supported the “Company of the Year” competition for the sixth consecutive year. The competition is organised by Junior Achievement Cyprus, offering students aged 15-18 years old the opportunity to see in action how a business idea is implemented and how a business operates and grows. Due to the measures that were taken to contain the spread of COVID-19, this year’s competition was held online on 5 June. The team Coalfee was selected to represent Cyprus in the JA Europe Competition in July 2020. During the national final, PwC presented the team tapNplan with the “Most Innovative Product / Service” award, giving it the opportunity to participate in a coaching session, specially-designed by a PwC professional “coach”. Throughout the year, over 20 PwC members participated in the programme as mentors of the teams that took part in the competition, while on 6 March, the company organised its annual trade fair at its offices especially for the teams, where they presented their products.

Green business idea competition

It is worth noting that PwC Cyprus remains for the sixth consecutive year a Strategic Partner of Chrysalis LEAP, the first accelerator of green business ideas in Cyprus, which provides the necessary tools and skills to start-ups that participate in the various programmes it offers, in order to turn their ideas into sustainable businesses. ClimateLaunchpad, the world’s larger green business idea competition, will be held online this year. The Cypriot teams are preparing for the National Final, which will take place in August. The three prevailing teams will represent our country in the European Regional Final, which will take place in September, while the teams that make it through the European Final will then participate in the Global Grand Final.

The training Bootcamp also took place within the framework of this year’s competition with the participation of 13 teams and three PwC Cyprus mentors offering practical support.

In statements, PwC Cyprus CEO Evgenios Evgeniou said the aim of the organisation is to contribute to the creation of the best possible conditions for future generations: “With PwC’s values in mind, we are aware of our responsibility towards society and support entrepreneurship and innovation. Our aim is to bring about positive change and contribute to the creation of future leaders and a better tomorrow for the generations to come,” said Mr. Evgeniou.
