Promoting Paphos in Israel

The Paphos regional board of tourism is pushing for direct flights connecting the town with Israel as part of a wider plan to increase overseas visitor numbers to the popular coastal town.

Representatives of the Paphos Regional Board of Tourism are currently in Tel Aviv to participate in a two-day tourism exhibition, which they see as an opportunity for further growth in 2016.

A spokesman said: “the regional board of tourism believes that there is an immediate need for an airline connection between Paphos and Israel.”

Paphos is very popular with Israelis, said the spokesman, and as part of the implementation of a tourism promotion plan for the town for 2016, they will continue to attend specialised exhibitions at target markets abroad, he said.

Cyprus and in particular Paphos, is a growing market for couples from Israel tying the knot, which is one of the areas being promoted at the tourism fair.

“We are once again participating in this event to further promote weddings services, as well as the unique experiences and trips the district of Paphos has to offer throughout the year, for both small parties and larger organised trips.”

According to the tourism board, in 2015 the Israeli market showed considerable growth, reaching 98,000 arrivals, ranking 6th in arrivals overall.

“This is an increase of 43% compared to 2014.  Paphos operators consider that Israel is among the countries that can be developed further in 2016 and subsequent years. An immediate priority remains a Paphos connection to Tel Aviv or Haifa with regularly scheduled flights on a year-round basis.”
