President opens new wing at Eoka veterans centre

President Nicos Anastasiades on Saturday inaugurated a new rehabilitation wing at the Eoka veterans’ rehabilitation centre in Palodhia, Limassol.

The new wing will boost the centre’s quality of service while also contributing to the public health sector.

The president thanked the centre’s board of directors for their work, while reserving special praise for honorary president Andreas Angelopoulos, calling him a visionary for his efforts in making the centre a reality.

“The high quality of services and multifaceted work of the centre are recognised as a significant contribution to the health sector,” the president said, praising the centre’s care, hospitalisation and recovery units.

“It is not an accident that the state supports and contributes to the centre, especially within the framework of Gesy, in which the centre is included, so that those who need hospitalisation, treatment and rehabilitation, receive the affection of the state through the national healthcare system,” he added.

The president said that in this context, the state has signed several contracts with the centre, sponsoring dozens of beds for patient stays, with the total costs during 2021 amounting to €22 million.

Moreover, the centre also received a state grant worth €550,000, while the new wing drew state support to the tune of €1 million.

“Either as an individual or as a representative of the people, what I want you to know is that as long as I breathe I will be a pillar for you,” the president concluded.
