Positive Swiss tourism prospects

The Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO) has noted an increase in the number of Swiss flights to Cyprus bodes well for tourism arrivals from that country.

In an announcement the CTO said visitors from Switzerland topped the list in terms of per capita spending while holidaying in Cyprus.

“According to current indications and data collected by the CTO, the total number of available one-way flight places from Switzerland to Cyprus during summer 2016 will increase by 25% or some 15,500 additional places compared to the same period in 2015,” the CTO said.

Another positive development is that, for the first time, there will be flights out of Bern airport for a full, five-month period. This will be a weekly Helvetic Airways-Hotelplan flight to Larnaca Airport.

Air Berlin and Germania airlines will also be introducing routes between Zurich and Larnaca two to three times a week per company.

EasyJet is also continuing its flights between Basel and Larnaca. Edelweiss airline will also be introducing its first daily flight to Larnaca between March 27 and October 27.

“Given the above anticipated accessibility data, the CTO foresees significant prospects for the further development of the Swiss tourism markets and calls on all stakeholders to play their role in ensuring a positive tourism experience,” the CTO said, adding the public had a role to play in showcasing Cyprus’ hospitality.

Cyprus also anticipates an increase in tourism from markets including Russia following the Sharm el-Sheikh plane tragedy while recent forecasts have also included an expected rise interest from British visitors.
