Piale Pasha to become ‘jewel of Larnaca’ says municipality

The Piale Pasha facelift, scheduled to begin in autumn, will make the area “a jewel for Larnaca” the city’s municipality has stated.

In a meeting on Monday, Larnaca Mayor Andreas Vyra was informed of the project’s progress by Michalis Efstathiou, of the Studio Bagno and BauTech Systems Companies.

A statement issued said mayor Efstathiou, in collaboration with the Larnaca tourism development organisaton, took an active role in the process of finalising ideas, including the selection of colours for the building facades.

According to the announcement, an artistic team, consisting of Evro Evryviadis, Kyriakos Tsangaridis, Spyros Agathou and Iosif Hadjikyriakos participated in determining the final colour selection. “The colour scheme was chosen based on historical evidence taken from records, paintings and engravings of the period,” the announcement said.

The mainly architectural works that will be carried out, aim to restore the facades as closely as possible to their original form, and include removal of loose plaster, materials and coatings from original surfaces, reinforcement with ceramics or stone, placement of inscriptions, windows and doors, and removal of materials deemed inconsistent with the character of the area.

It is noted that the municipality of Larnaca has already announced the tender for the project, the study for which was carried out by the office of ARMON SPACE ARCHITECTURE LTD.

“The project, which is estimated to cost €1,052,000.00 + VAT will last 15 months, and may be co-financed by the European Union, the republic of Cyprus and the municipality of Larnaca,” the municipality said.
