Paphos promotes its sunsets to boost tourism

Paphos is promoting its unique sunsets which local tourism industry officials claim are the most magnificent on the island, through a new initiative backed by the CTO.

The new project will see a collection of promotional material being gathered at specific locations which are known for their stunning sunsets. These will then be distributed in order to help boost tourism to the district. The initiative is being backed by the Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO), the Paphos regional board of tourism, hoteliers, travel agents and other interested parties.

Nasos Hadjigeorgiou, the manager of the Paphos regional board of tourism, said: “We are very fortunate to have such beautiful sunsets in Paphos, which can be enjoyed by both locals and visitors. We are in the process of collecting short films and pictures which will be used on their own and also to create leaflets and boards.” The initial locations have been chosen as the most beautiful sunset in an area of natural beauty, or for their enhancement of buildings or structures.

According to the local tourism board, Paphos’ top sunset experiences are best found at Petra tou Romiou (the birthplace of the goddess Aphrodite), in Kouklia, Kato Paphos harbour and the lighthouse, viewing toward the sea from Ktima, (Paphos old town), and the area of Moutalos. Also favoured for the scenic sunset view is the seafront area which connects Chlorakas Lemba and Kissonerga, as well as Ayios Georgios in Peyia, Lara Bay in the Akamas and specific areas of Polis and Neo Chorio.

Hadjigeorgiou added: “These are the most magnificent sunsets in Cyprus and a beautiful experience which so many people enjoy.” The tourism chief said that all of the recordings, pictures and other reports are expected to be completed by late April or the beginning of May and will be issued immediately using various forms of electronic and printed media. “There are so many good points about Paphos and our sunsets are one aspect which should be promoted. We will ensure the information is made available to wedding companies, honeymoon specialists, tour operators, relevant websites and other agents.” He added: “No two sunsets are the same, even if they are viewed at the same locations. There is something magical about watching the colours and shapes created by a sunset; it’s fascinating,” he said.
