Paphos with 40% followed by Limassol with 23% are the two most popular destinations for Cypriots wanting to unwind.

Conread research was commissioned by the Cyprus Tourist Organisation (CTO) to conduct a survey on the satisfaction of the public with regards to internal tourism in Cyprus.

The poll conducted involved 825 people who visited and stayed outside of their district of permanent residence during the last two years excluding the summer months, in other words autumn, winter and spring of 2014–2016.

A total of 54% of the participants, stayed and visited outside of their district of permanent residence of which 76% occurred during the winter months of 2014-2016.

Some 93% chose to stay in tourist resorts, 72% had frequented catering establishments, while 18% had gone to places of interest.

With regards to tourist resorts, satisfaction was high as far as room size and cleanliness is concerned both reaching well over 80% and despite the general reviews being high thereare issues which require attention; available parking 76.1%, price-quality ratio 75.1%, availability of other services 78.3%, availability of free Wi-Fi 77.9%, and availability/access to areas for people with mobility disadvantages 78%.

The points which affected the level of satisfaction in the catering category, included the staff, comfort and quality. The biggest factor affecting the level of satisfaction was staff performance. Although the overall performance was over 80%, points needing improvement include; quality-price ratio 71.6%, available parking 66.5%, health and safety 76.8%, cleanliness of WC 75.9% and availability/access to areas for people with mobility disadvantages 66.2%

A very low percentage of those asked were actually interested in visiting places of interest, and may require a strategic plan to boost interest in these places.

The general satisfaction of visitors to these sites was high at 80.1% however the following points do require improvement; availability of information and guides 72.1%, staff service 77.7%, availability of free Wi-Fi  40.8%, health and safety 71.5%, availability/access to areas for people with mobility disadvantages 65.0%
