Paphos hotel occupancy rates at 70 to 75%

Paphos hoteliers association president Thanos Michaelides said on Monday that hotel occupancy rates in the district in September ranged from 70 to 75%.

Speaking to the Cyprus News Agency, Michaelides also said that October will see the same numbers registered, mainly due to arrivals from the UK, adding that September was characterised by high numbers of tourists from Israel.

“The last 15 days of October in the UK are school holidays and this always brings visitors from that market to Paphos and to Cyprus in general,” he said.

“Along with a large volume of arrivals from Israel, we also did well with French and German tourists. Our efforts are aimed at developing other markets, as we cannot solely rely on the British one.”

Michaelides then praised the deputy ministry of tourism’s initiative of trying to encourage young people to finding employment in the tourism sector.

“The tourism industry is one of the most important industries we can develop and one that has registered a steady growth over the years. We need to constantly improve our offer,” Michaelides said.
