The figure showed that Cyprus was behind the EU average of 0.4% when it came to spending on environmental protection by industry but it was up slightly on 2012 when it totalled €30 million, or 0.15% of GDP, Cystat said.
By sector of economic activity, the manufacturing industries reported expenditure of €24.7 million, the mining and quarrying industries and electricity supply enterprises €5.8 million and water treatment and supply enterprises €0.1 million.
The largest amount of expenditure €9.9 million was spent in the sector of non-metallic mineral products, followed by food processing at €6.8 million, the manufacture of beverages €2.7 million, pharmaceutical products €1 million and wood €0.9 million.
By environmental domain, expenditure related to the reduction of air emissions totalled €10.7 million, the monitoring, treatment and disposal of waste €10 million, the treatment of waste water €8.5 million and others (such as the abatement of noise and vibrations, the protection of soil and ground water and the protection of natural resources and biodiversity) €1.3 million.
